Amid MLB Lockout, Braves Players Work At Papa Johns

It’s not all doom-and-gloom with the MLB lockout going on. Dansby Swanson and Joc Pederson, of the world champion Atlanta Braves, have found a way to pass the time as temporary part-time workers at Papa John’s. As “Pre-Season Pizza Pros,” Swanson and Pederson fold boxes and make pizzas for hungry customers in the area for a shift.

They got the gigs after replying to a tweet from Papa John’s asking for players with “too much time on their hands.” While at work, the players got the same benefits regular employees get: “flexible hours, healthcare options, training programs, dental and vision plans, paid vacation, disability and life insurance, a 401k and stock options, and access to the ‘Dough to Degrees’ tuition program.” What a deal!

The last time there was a MLB lockout was in 1990 and the last work stoppage was in the 1994-95 players strike. At this time there is not much progress on players and management coming to an agreement so maybe we will see more players get in the pizza-making game? Not likely, but why not?
